Most of Seoul is laid out on a grid, which makes it easy to navigate. Namsan Tower makes a good point of reference from many places in the city.
Subway stations make a convenient point of reference for pedestrians. The exits of each station are numbered. If you get lost, just find a subway station and look inside for a map. You’ll find a map of the area, which will show you the area around the stations, and which direction the surrounding stations are in for point of reference.

Buses in Seoul are color coded and numbered. Yellow buses run within a local area. Blue buses run between multiple districts. Red buses run between cities (Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do).
Depending on where you want to go, a bus may be the fastest option. Moreover, if your location is not near a subway stop, you can probably find a bus that runs from the subway station to or near wherever you’re headed. If you used a T-Money card, this transfer will usually be free.
